September in Downtown NYC: San Gennaro, Little Italy & Churro Specials at La Churrería

September in New York always feels like a new chapter.
The summer heat starts to soften, the city slowly moves toward fall, and Downtown Manhattan becomes one of the best places to walk, eat, explore, and enjoy the neighborhood before the season changes. Around Little Italy, September also brings one of the most festive moments of the year: the Feast of San Gennaro.
Every year, Mulberry Street fills with lights, music, food, families, visitors, and that classic New York energy that makes the neighborhood feel alive from morning to night. For La Churrería, located at 284 Mulberry Street, it is always a special time to celebrate the area, welcome new guests, and bring a little Spanish sweetness to one of Little Italy’s biggest traditions.
This year, we are joining the celebration with our own San Gennaro Specials: a playful mix of Italian and Spanish flavors, made the La Churrería way.
San Gennaro in Little Italy
The Feast of San Gennaro is one of New York City’s most iconic September traditions, bringing food, music, culture, lights, and community to the streets of Little Italy.
The celebration began in 1926, when Neapolitan immigrants living around Mulberry Street organized a neighborhood festival to honor San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples. What started as a small local tradition became a beloved New York event, and this year marks 100 years of the Feast, making it an especially meaningful moment for Little Italy and Downtown NYC.
Every September, the neighborhood transforms into a lively street celebration filled with food vendors, restaurants, music, processions, and visitors from all over the city. It is the kind of event that invites you to walk slowly, try something new, share a bite, and enjoy the energy of one of Manhattan’s most historic neighborhoods.
For anyone spending September in Downtown NYC, San Gennaro is more than a festival. It is a celebration of tradition, flavor, and neighborhood life. And if you are walking through Little Italy, a sweet stop at La Churrería on Mulberry Street is the perfect way to enjoy the season with churros, coffee, chocolate, and something made to share.
A September Walk Through Downtown Manhattan
There is something about September that makes Downtown Manhattan perfect for slow wandering.
You can start around SoHo, walk toward Little Italy, explore Mulberry Street, stop for lunch, grab something sweet, and keep moving through the city as the afternoon turns golden. The weather begins to feel a little softer, the colors start changing, and New York slowly shifts into fall mode.
It is also the time of year when the calendar starts filling up again: back-to-school routines, fall events, neighborhood festivals, coffee walks, and all the small city rituals that come with a new season.
And if your September walk brings you to Little Italy, La Churrería is right in the middle of the moment.
La Churrería’s San Gennaro Specials
As every year, we wanted to create something special for San Gennaro. Since the festival is such a festive date for the neighborhood, we are bringing a few limited-time items that celebrate both sides of Mulberry Street: Italian inspiration, Spanish churros, and a little La Churrería fun.
Think of it as Italy and Spain meeting over something crispy, sweet, savory, and made for the street.
Our San Gennaro Specials will be available from:
Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, September 27
Churro Cerdo Taco | $7
A savory churro taco made with shredded pork, onions, and corn.
This special is playful, unexpected, and perfect for anyone looking for something savory while walking through the festival. It brings the fun of a street-food style bite together with the La Churrería churro twist.

Cheese & Corn Empanada | $5.50 each
Warm, savory, and easy to enjoy on the go, our Cheese & Corn Empanada is made for festival days.
It is the kind of snack you can grab while walking through Little Italy, share with a friend, or pair with something sweet after.
Churro Cannoli | $5.50 each
A San Gennaro celebration needed cannoli, so we made it our way.
Our Churro Cannoli takes the idea of the classic Italian treat and gives it a La Churrería twist with a crispy churro-style shell and sweet fillings.
Available flavors:
- pistachio
- Nutella
- dulce de leche

It is familiar, fun, and made for anyone who wants to try something special during the festival.
Italy Meets Spain on Mulberry Street
San Gennaro is deeply connected to Little Italy, but New York is also a city where cultures meet on every block.
At La Churrería, our roots are Spanish. We are known for made-to-order churros, Spanish-style chocolate, coffee, and sweet café moments inspired by traditional churrerías in Spain. During San Gennaro, we love being part of the neighborhood celebration while bringing our own flavor to the table.
That is why this year’s specials mix both worlds: the festive energy of Little Italy with the warmth, crunch, and sweetness of Spanish churros.
Italian tradition, Spanish treats, and a very Downtown NYC kind of celebration.
